Now or Never

24” x 36”, Mixed Media (Woven Fibres and Cyanotype) on Canvas, 2022

“Now or Never is a mixed media tapestry about the current state of the environment. This piece is a combination of a woven textile and cyanotype prints on canvas. Focused on the health of aquatic life impacted by both climate change and human impact, inspired by the recent [2021] IPCC AR6 report about climate change; impacts, adaptation, and vulnerability. Using imagery of a fish skeleton, a turtle, garbage such as plastic bags, details of oil spill patterns, clocks, dragonflies (that represent change and adaptability) as well as a map compass.

The materials include a variety of wool yarn, woven through a cotton warp thread, sewn onto unprimed cotton canvas that is printed with cyanotype using digital negatives from drawings, and a variety of collected buttons, beads, sculpted leaves and clocks/clock hands sewn on.
